Vilnius Innovation Forum 2013 “Innovation Drift”

This year on December 4-6, the first Vilnius Innovation Forum 2013 “Innovation Drift” will take place in Lithuania. This Forum is an international event designed to create a high-level discussion platform about innovation, best practices and impact for European economy growth and well-being including the situation in various countries and regions (foremost, the Baltic Sea Region). This forum is under patronage of the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.

Speakers

Business and science innovation leaders from all over Europe will share their insights on the role of innovation in Europe’s economy. More than 50 inspiring speakers and famous moderators will handle the sessions of the Forum. Sir Timothy John Berners−Lee, the man who has changed the life of the entire world and is best known as an inventor of the World Wide Web, is invited as one of the keynote speakers of the Forum.

Peter Boyd, an associate of Sir Richard Branson and Executive Director of Carbon War Room, a non-profit organisation, will start the session of the eco-innovations topic. Meanwhile, Allan Alaküla, Head of the Tallinn EU Office and one of the creators of the public transport system in the city, will share the experience in green innovation integration to the capital of Estonia.

One of the famous start-ups community leaders and founder of Berlin Startup Academy Christoph Räthke will introduce an intriguing topic of ‘When NOT to Found a Startup’. Cheryl D. Miller, who has a long-lasting experience in fostering women and youth entrepreneurship, together with active Lithuanian ladies engaged in innovation, science, technology and business, will seek to inspire the participants of the ‘Women Innovators’ session.

Participants

The Forum will attract well-known innovation leaders and experts, entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises, policy makers, researchers from the EU and abroad. The Forum intends to host around 600 guests from the EU and other countries.

The participation is free with advance registration required.

Programme

Forum will offer a rich two-day programme of informative, innovative and interactive sessions. The science and technology exhibition will complement the discussions.

On the third day, the foreign participants will be invited to visit the most innovative companies of Lithuania.

On 4 December, at 10.30 a press conference of the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania Evaldas Gustas, MITA director Arūnas Karlonas, and the keynote speaker of the Forum Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee will be held in the Skybar of Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva. The main topics of the Vilnius Innovation Forum will be introduced.

During the Forum, the launching event of the largest EU research and innovation programme HORIZON 2020 will be held with the budget of around EUR 80 billion. Under this programme, all innovation segments – from idea to the market – will be funded following 3 evaluation criteria, including high quality scientific research, competitive industry and benefits for the society.

The Forum, which is part of Lithuania’s Presidency events of the Council of the EU, is organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania in cooperation with the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology.
