Child safety and injury prevention is an important issue for Lithuania because here in our country the rate of injury deaths is much higher than elsewhere in Europe.

In Europe, there is a network of child experts which consists of members from over 30 countries and unites Europe’s efforts at reducing the level of the main reason of child mortality and disability – injury – and ensuring child safety through evidence-based research and good practices. This network is coordinated by the European Child Safety Alliance (ECSA), which is supported by the European Commission. Lithuania participates at ECSA-coordinated and EC-funded projects, for example, the Child Safety Action Plan (CSAP) and the Tools to Address Childhood Trauma and Injuries, and Children’s Safety (TACTICS).

Conferences of child safety experts take place biannually in different countries the experts of which are members of the contact point network. Such a conference is being organized in Lithuania for the first time.

The country which hosts the conference gets an opportunity to focus on child safety, involve relevant governmental and municipal institutions and NGOs, and present its best practices as well as learn from other countries.
